Instructions
Steps
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl.
In another bowl, whip the butter and the sugar with a hand-held mixer until fluffy, about 5 minutes.
Now add the apple sauce and vanilla essence until just combined.
Add the dry ingredients and mix them well till they are incorporated.
Scoop the dough into small balls and roll them into your favorite shapes. I did Xmas themed ones.
Place about 2-inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Press a thumbprint into the center of each ball and you get help from your kiddo.
Bake cookies for about 15 minutes.
Let it cool. Meanwhile microwave the jam for a minute and add the jam in the middle of the cookie where we did the thumb impression. Also I tried other shapes like star, Xmas tree and ginger bread man. Decorated them with MnMs and Jam.
Thats it yummy, jam cookies are ready.
Notes
You can use any flavored jam and sky is the limit for decoration. Adjust sugar as per your preference. Apple sauce is the egg replacer here. If you can source it, replace it with yogurt and include ¼ tsp of baking soda.Adapted from Food Network
