We are a Harry Potter fanatic family. Period. Please don’t ask me how many times I have read the book. :-) Like Ponniyin Selvan, I can keep reading and reading. My two favorite books.
Now coming back to the butterbeer, I relished it in “The wizarding world of Harry Potter” in Universal Studios, LA. While the husband and I enjoyed the butterbeer, the kiddo relished the pumpkin juice.
I wanted to try butterbeer at home for quite some time, but I was waiting for the kiddo to enter into his preteens. My version is non-alcoholic, but I was a bit hesitant to introduce cream soda early. Finally, this year I made both butterbeer and pumpkin juice (recipe coming in a few months) for his birthday.
Ok, there are several DIY butterbeer recipes out there on the internet, but mine will be simplest of all. It’s a no-cook recipe with just 3-ingredients. So obviously it’s semihomemade. I won’t call mine a copycat recipe of Universal Studio’s butterbeer, but it definitely matches it.
When I was searching for a no-cook butterbeer recipe, I landed upon the “favfamilyrecipes” butterbeer recipe. I further simplified the recipe by using store-bought caramel sauce and whipped cream topping.
I know making homemade caramel sauce or whipped cream topping is not that difficult. While I love to make everything from scratch, sometimes, especially when I organize a party, I opt for one or two semihomemade recipes. This butterbeer falls under that category.
If you are adventurous, you can even make the carbonated water at home and make cream soda from scratch—:-) personal preference and choices.
As it’s a semihomemade and a 3-ingredient recipe, you can grab and gather the ingredients quickly. And whip this butterbeer on the go – be it for a pool party or in any picnic spot, you can prepare this in no time.
Ingredients Required-
Now you need just three ingredients for my butterbeer recipe-
- Cream soda
- Caramel sauce
- Whipped cream topping
This recipe is not a sponsored post, and I just shared the products that I used. You can use what’s available at your end.
- Cream soda – It’s sweet soft drink mostly vanilla-flavored, and that’s what I got. The one that I used is with sparkling water. Other flavors are also available. But I would recommend original/plain or vanilla flavored. I got Virgil’s handcrafted vanilla cream from whole foods. But you can use any brand. I haven’t tested with other flavors.
- Caramel Sauce – I went with salted caramel sauce. But you can use regular ones as well.
- Whipped cream topping – I used light whipped cream topping. There are a lot of optional available like original, extra creamy, and so on. I would keep it plain, but you can choose light or creamy.
How to make butterbeer-
There aren’t any big steps here. Watch me making the butterbeer here. Please do subscribe to my Youtube channel.
- In a mixing bowl, first, add the cream soda (make sure it is cold) and add 2 tbsps of salted caramel sauce and mix well.
- Now pour this into the serving cups. Add the whipped cream topping and add a tsp of caramel sauce on top of the cream topping and serve right away!
That’s it. It’s as simple as that.
Recipe Notes-
- For a 12oz soda, I went with 1 tbsp of caramel sauce. We liked this ratio. But you can adjust it according to your preference. It’s all good sweet stuff, so play with the ratio. Nothing will go waste.
- Use regular caramel and products of your choice, like light or creamy whipped cream topping.
