Easy-to-make, delicious and healthy breakfast toast recipes with four different toppings! Check out how I made my breakfast toasts and other topping ideas!
We love our breakfast toasts, and along with idli and dosa, you will find oatmeal, other toasts varieties, and porridge, overnight oats on my meal planners. Some weeks I have two different toasts also as I have in this meal planner or this one. On days when I pack idli for lunch, I rely on these toasts for breakfast.
For today, I chose bread as my ingredient, and I will share the common toasts that I make at our home regularly. Every time I share the meal planner with the toast, I get recipe requests, and I was contemplating if I should share all the toasts recipes individually or together. I took this mega marathon thali/platter theme as an opportunity and decided to share all the four in one post.
All the toasts that I make are non-stove-top ones, and I use my electric toaster for toasting the bread. My 11-year old can easily make these toasts for all of us, given the fruits are chopped. :-) That’s how easy it is, and you can very well customize it according to your preference.
Bread Toast:
In simple words, bread toast is nothing but a bread slice browned on both sides by heat. You can toast your bread in your preferred way, and I use my electric toaster to toast my bread, and I don’t use any butter or fat while toasting the bread.
Is bread toast healthy?
I can hear you asking if bread toast is filling and healthy. It ultimately depends upon the toppings you chose and also the bread. Homemade white bread or other grain bread is healthy when compared to store-bought ones. But if you can’t bake at home, choose good quality multi-grain bread.
Also, opt for nut-butters and cheese instead of sugar-loaded jams or chocolate spreads. Fresh fruits and toppings like hemp seeds and chia seeds elevate your toast’s texture and flavor profile. You can always drizzle some honey or maple syrup for the extra sweetness.
The layers in bread toast-
First, I apply a spread on my toasted bread, then top it up with fruits and nuts or seeds like hemp seeds or chia seeds or even toasted sesame seeds. You can customize according to your preference.
- Bread – For all these toasts, I used Dave’s Killer Bread – the thinly sliced 21 grain and seed bread, and each slice is 70 calories. (PS – This is not a sponsored post)
- Spread – I always smear my toast with nut butter or cream cheese for fruit toppings, and for my avocado ones, I opt for hummus. I don’t prefer sugar-loaded jams, and these nut-butter takes care of the protein content as well.
- Fruit Toppings – Fresh seasonal fruits are my go-to option for the breakfast toast. I love apples, bananas, avocados, berries, and peaches on my toast.
- Nuts and Seeds – You can add roasted nuts or seeds of your choice, and I love seasonings from Trader’s Joes like the chile-lime or the Everything but bagel seasoning. I add those for my savory toasts.
Breakfast Toast 4 Ways
Today I have one savory toast and three sweet toasts on my platter.
- Avocado toast
- Cream cheese and berries toast
- Peanut butter and banana toast
- Almond butter and apple toast
Note– There is no set measure for the spread or the fruits. Adjust as per your preference and dietary needs.
Avocado Toast:
Among all the toasts, this one is quite popular here. With the goodness of fresh avocado and simple toppings, this can’t go wrong. No wonder it is popular.
For this toast, if I have hummus, I always smear 1 tbsp of hummus and add ½ of sliced avocados. I then sprinkle paprika or chile-lime seasoning and Everything but bagel seasoning on top. I have tried this toast without hummus also.
Variations –
- You can make avocado toast in different ways. Instead of slicing the avocado, you can mash them up and add some lemon zest and raw onions and enjoy.
- Alternatively, you can make guacamole and use that as a topping as well.
Cream cheese and berries toast
We like the combo of cream cheese and berries and peaches. For this toast, I smear 1 tbsp of cream cheese and then add sliced strawberries and raspberries. Then I sprinkle some hemp seeds. If the berries are not so sweet, I drizzle some honey.
Peanut butter and banana toast
I love this combo, and I have a smoothie recipe also with this combo. I cannot have peanut butter with any other fruits except for banana. For this toast, I smear 2 tbsp of peanut butter (I know it’s a lot, but I love my toast loaded with nut-butter) and then add sliced bananas. Then I sprinkle some toasted chia seeds or sesame seeds.
Almond butter and apple toast
In my opinion, peanut butter and banana and almond butter and apple are made for each other. When I use almond butter, I use either apples or pears. Honey crisp apples go well in this toast, but you can use any other apple variety also.
For this toast, I smear 2 tbsp of almond butter and then add sliced apples. Then I sprinkle some seeds. I went with both sesame seeds and hemp seeds for this one.
