Crunchy and savory roasted Indian-style chickpeas made in the air fryer. These delicious and guilt-free roasted chickpeas are perfect guilt-free snacks, and you can even jazz up your salads with these roasted chickpeas.
I love making quick small-portioned snacks in my air fryer. When I was making my hurigalu, I had the idea of roasting it in an air fryer, but I dropped it and went the traditional way. But ever since, I have wanted to make roasted beans in the air fryer. I have tried roasted garbanzo beans in the oven(oven timings included in the post), so I tried the same in the air fryer, super happy with the results. For a small portion, an air fryer is my preferred choice.

Ingredients
Cooked chickpeas: You can use canned chickpeas/garbanzo beans, or you can soak and cook the dried beans in your pressure cooker too. Make sure you drain them well and pat them dry before roasting.
Oil – We need 1.5 tsp of oil for 1.5 cups of garbanzo beans. You can use the oil of your choice. I went with cold-pressed peanut oil.
Spices: Now, when it comes to spices, the possibilities are endless. I went with my favorite Indian spices and made it a tangy snack, more like namkeen with mint flavor. I used ground turmeric, chaat masala, dried mint, salt, and red chili powder.
Spice variations
I am sharing some of my favorite flavors and combinations. But this is not the end of the list.
- You can combine chickpeas with olive oil, salt, and Italian herbs.
- My favorite combination is olive oil with Traders Joe’s Chipotle chili lime dressing.
- You can also try cajun seasoning or taco seasoning.

Preparing the chickpeas
We need 1.5 cups of cooked chickpeas for this recipe. Either you can use canned chickpeas/garbanzo beans (one 15 oz can), or you can use homemade ones too.
Soak 1 cup of dried chickpeas for 8 hours or overnight. Discard the water used for soaking and pressure cook for 3 to 4 whistles by adding sufficient water.
If using Instant Pot, cook at bean/chili mode with sufficient water. Drain the water and take the required amount of chickpeas.
Using a kitchen towel or paper towel, pat it dry. Make sure there isn’t any moisture.
PS – Canned chickpeas come in handy not only for this recipe, but for other ones too. Check out my falafel recipe with canned chickpeas.
