Jazz-up any holiday party or summer party with this simple jaljeera soda which I call a sprite jaljeera refresher. A quick refreshing Indian drink with just two ingredients.
A good spicy Indian mocktail is always refreshing, and it’s great for any party or potluck, irrespective of the season. This jaljeera soda or the sprite jaljeera refresher is one such recipe.
I don’t know if I can call this a mocktail, as I am using just two ingredients and not adding any other fruit juices. Call it the way you prefer, but this is definitely a fun drink to relish once in a while.
I learned this recipe from my friend. When we visited her, she served us this drink and asked us to guess the beverage. I could taste some Indian spices, but I didn’t get it right. Finally, I got the answer from my friend, and it’s sprite with jaljeera masala.
Jaljeera
Jal means water, and jeera means cumin in Hindi. It’s a delicious and tangy spice mix with cumin, black salt, mint, and dry mango powder assorted ingredients. While you can make this jaljeera masala at home, I went with store-bought spice powder. I really like this flavor and use the masala for other beverages like aam panna as well.
If you can’t source jaljeera, you can use a chaat masala, and I have tried that multiple times.
Soda & Alternatives
Ok, let me clarify that this is not a sponsored post, and as I have always tried this recipe with sprite, I am going with it. Also, I am not recommending this for regular consumption. It’s a party/festive treat that you can relish instead of a cocktail.
Coming to the alternatives, caffeine-free lemon/lime soda works the best. So you can use any soda brand of your choice. You can also use club soda or sparkling water. In that case, you need to add sugar and lemon/lime juice. As I used sprite, I did not add any additional sugar.
Now without any further ado, let’s see how I made it.
Ingredients required
- 8 oz sprite (any lemon/lime soda works)
- 1 tsp Jaljeera masala, or to taste
- Fruits to garnish, optional. I used strawberries.
Procedure
- Add the Jaljeera masala to the sprite or the soda that you are using.
- Mix well. Add ice cubes and garnish it with fruits and serve immediately.
Recipe Notes
- You can use any lemon/lime soda of your choice.
- Adjust the jaljeera masala as per your preference. You can use chaat masala instead.
- If using plain soda or sparkling water, add sugar and lemon juice to taste.
