The cold weather always calls for something warm and comforting. What’s better than a hot cup of cocoa with some peppermint and marshmallows(gelatin-free)? Now how about gifting the same in cute little jars? Check out how to do your own DIY hot cocoa mix jars for this Christmas.
This year instead of baked goodies, I decided to try non-baked stuff for Christmas and gift the same. Last week, I posted no-bake chocolate fudge, candied orange peels, and gumdrops. These recipes are easy, but you need to plan a bit for making them. But what I am going to share today is quick and instant. It doesn’t involve any cooking, microwaving, etc. With readily available ingredients, you can make this hot cocoa mix.
The essential ingredients are milk powder, unsweetened cocoa, and powdered sugar. You can add any flavors and toppings to this basic recipe. I added powdered peppermint. I crushed the candy canes and peppermint candies and added a tsp of it. When I saw the vegetarian-friendly marshmallows, I couldn’t resist myself from grabbing it. Don’t we all love some hot cocoa with some marshmallows floating?
PS – This recipe has been featured in Twinkl, as part of their Christmas Dinners Around the World series.
Hot Cocoa Measurements and Servings:
The below measure serves one. You can mix this in 250ml / 8oz of hot water or milk and relish it. The hot cocoa mix already has milk powder in it, so when you add it with milk, it is going to be rich.I bought these jars from IKEA, and you can use any mason jars or even Ziplocs. This jar holds two servings of the cocoa mix. When you are gifting this, it is always good to write the number of servings and the instructions. I just wrote – ” Serves – 2. Mix the content with 500ml of hot water or milk. PS: It contains milk powder”.
Now without any further ado, here is how I prepared my hot chocolate mix with peppermint.
Ingredients:
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – 1 tbsp
- Milk Powder – 2 tbsp
- Powdered Sugar – 1 tbsp
- Powdered Peppermint – 1 tsp
- Marshmallows – 1 or 2
Prep – Work:
- Grind approximately five candy canes or the peppermint candies in a mixer jar and keep it ready.
Steps:
- Sieve 2 tbsps of milk powder, 1 tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 tbsp of sugar. (1 serving of the essential ingredient set) This process helps to remove the lumps.
- Now add the crushed peppermint to the sieved chocolate mix and mix thoroughly. Now transfer this to the mason jar or Ziplocs. Add the marshmallows on top. You can add two servings or more depending upon your mason jar size.
- Decorate it and add the servings and required instructions on a gift tag.
- That’s it. Your Christmas hot cocoa mason jars are ready.
Notes:
- You can skip the milk powder and make it vegan-friendly.
- Instead of peppermint, you can also include cinnamon (¼ tsp) and nutmeg (⅛ tsp).
