Yummylicious and gorgeous pinkish Rotimatic Beetroot Puri – a recipe that pleases your palate both visually and tastewise. Check out the detailed video recipe below.
Rotimatic Beetroot Puri
I have been always sneaking in vegetables in my idli and dosa, but these day I have also started to hide the goodness of veggies in my poori, too.
Last week I shared the Rotimatic Masala roti with quinoa flour and now it’s the time for poori. The next in the rotimatic series is the puri, precisely beetroot poori – a recipe that pleases your palate both visually and tastewise.
Why Beets?
Wondering why I went with beets because we all love beetroot and I always wanted to include foods rich in Vitamin b12. (story coming up in the next post) Beetroot is one among the top vegetables rich in vitamin b12, and it is also rich in iron, magnesium, and potassium. It helps in boosting the stamina and energy.
Beetroot has an earthy flavor, and I know it’s not everyone’s favorite veggie. I know fresh beets are best. But if you are looking for easy ways to incorporate beets, then beets powder is your best bet. You can add it in your smoothies, sprinkle in salads and of course in your pooris too. :-)
Puri with Rotimatic
I know I am repeating this, but with Rotimatic, you don’t need to worry about kneading and rolling. All you need to do is mix the flours and adjust the settings. Purimatic presses perfect round puris for you which you can fry at your convenience. Yes, you don’t need to fry them right away.
Ensure you are keeping it covered without letting it dry. When needed, fry the pooris. I love the consistency of the purimatic. Every single poori puffs up without fail. It’s a sight to watch the poori puffing up. I posted it on my IG as well and mentioned the same.
I made fifteen plain pooris last week and every poori puffed up. And I am not exaggerating a bit here. Now I am thinking of doing poori party that too different poori variety party at home.
Other Poori Varieties
Instead of beets powder, you can include spinach powder, or spices and make masala poori or any berry powders like acai berry powder even. I know it sounds odd, but when blueberry idli can be made why not acai berry poori?

Purimatic Settings and the Flour I Used
I went with Aashirvaad Select wheat flour, and coarse semolina for preparing this poori and here is the setting that I used,
- Recipe: Puri
- Flour: Aashirvaad Select
- Thickness: 1
- Roast: 1
- Oil: 1
Here is the quick video that I captured while making this poori:
Rotimatic Beetroot Puri Recipe
Ingredients:
- Whole wheat flour – 3 cups
- Coarse Semolina – ⅓ cup
- Beets powder – 1 tbsp
- Sugar – ½ tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
Other Ingredients:
- Water – as required to fill the water container of rotimatic
- Oil – for frying and as needed to fill the oil container of rotimatic (rotimatic use less than ¼tsp of oil for each puri)
Steps:
-
- In a wide bowl, add all the ingredients.
- Mix it thoroughly.
- Transfer it to the flour container of rotimatic.
- Now start the rotimatic and select the puri option and the flour. I used Aashirvaad Select.
- Select your thickness, roast level, and oil. I kept everything to the minimum. You can see the setting level above.
- Select the count and let the rotimatic do its magic.
- Meanwhile, you can heat the oil for frying.
- As purimatic pushes the pressed poori, you can fry them right away if not store them in a covered casserole and fry when required.
Notes:
- As I mentioned, instead of beets powder you can use any vegetable or fruit powder or skip them entirely.
- Once the oil for frying hot, reduce the heat to medium.
- Fry the poori over medium heat for even cooking. Slightly press the poori with the ladle while frying for the puffiness.
- Also, I did not add the salt to the water. I added it directly to the flour. You can add it to the water as well.
