This is a three in one recipe post. As the title suggest, all are slow cooker | crockpot corn recipes. Today I am presenting, 3 slow cooked flavored corn recipes,

    • Butter Corn
    • Masala Corn
    • Sweet Chutney Flavored Corn

    SlowCookerCorn

I am back with my blogging marathon and this week’s theme is “One appliance and 3 recipes” and of course I picked slow cooker as my appliance. It’s been long time since I posted any slow cooker recipe. So to balance that, I am going to post back to back slow cooker corn recipes for the next few days. I think this summer, I posted quite a few summer specials including popsicles, ice-creams, lassi and of course mango recipes. But I missed out corn recipes and also some of the summer grilled recipes. I know I need to shovel the grilled recipes for later but still there is time for corn recipes that are perfect for both summer and winter.  So I am going to combine two themes and call it as, “One appliance, One Veggie and 3 recipes” and post all crockpot-corn recipes.

           SlowCookedFlavoredCorn

Recently I saw a video of preparing Microwave popcorn on the cob and that lead to couple of other interesting finds and I stumbled upon this website – flavored slow cooker corn. I wanted to try it right away but thought of trying it with Indian Flavors. We all love butter corn and masala corn, so those two were in list for sure. Then I thought why not apply sweet chutney and cook the corn? That became a huge hit and I tried one more interesting flavor, but I am saving that for next month. :-) (Shhh, its mega marathon)

There are no such strict measurements to this recipe. Adjust all the ingredients and the masalas as per your preference. All you need is FRESH corn and the your favorite flavors.  I used my crockpot for steaming the corn, but this can be done in stove top or it can be baked too. (Keep those two methods for a separate post)

Here comes my crockpot steamed flavored corn,

    • Appliance Used – Crockpot
    • Other things required – Aluminium foil or wrapper – 3 A4 sized or 2 pre cut foils
    • Pastry Brush

    Ingredients:

    • Fresh Corn on the Cob – 3
    • Butter – 2 to 3 tsps at room temperature
    • Salt – as required
    • Olive oil – 1 tsp
    • Black Pepper – as required
    • Sweet Chutney – 2 tsps
    • Chaat Masala – 1 tsp
    • Paprika – 1 tsp
    • Jal Jeera Masala – 1 tsp (optional, amchur powder can be used too)

    Prep – Work:

    • If the aluminum foils are not pre-cut, cut them into A4 size sheet or little bigger than that.
    • Remove the silky fiber of the corn and clean them. Pat it dry.
    • Make sure the butter is at room temperature.
    • Mix a tsp of gal jeera masala, red chilly powder and chaat masala along with salt and set aside.

    Steps:

    Butter Corn Recipe:

    • Place the corn in the middle of the aluminum foil.
    • Spread the butter on the corn generously.
    • Sprinkle salt and pepper and tightly wrap the corn in the foil. I folded it like a burrito. :-)

    Spicy Chaat Corn:

    • Place the corn in the middle of the aluminum foil.
    • Brush about 1 tsp of olive oil all over the corn.
    • Now sprinkle the  masala mix (Paprika, salt, chaat masala, jal jeera masala) all over the corn.
    • Now tightly wrap the corn in the foil.

    SpicyChaatCorn

    Sweet Chutney Corn:

    • Place the corn in the middle of the aluminum foil.
    • Brush about 2 tsps of sweet chutney all over the corn.
    • Sprinkle salt and black pepper and tightly wrap the corn in the foil.

    Cooking in Crockpot:

    • Please all these wrapped corn in the crockpot.

    RolledUpCornsCorninsSlowCooker

    • I set it on high mode for 2 hours and after that set in warm mode for about 30 minutes. If you are setting in low mode, you can slow cook for about 5 to 6 hours.
    • After it is cooked, let it cool down for about 15 minutes.
    • Now slowly open up the foil and that’s it. Flavored steamed corn is ready. Enjoy just like that or remove the corn kernels and add more masala and enjoy :-)

What a fun way to cook corn. I would never have thought of using a slow cooker. I especially love the sweet chutney version.
