Whenever I cook dal, I always make sure I will have some left overs, so that I can prepare this dal paratha. If I cook dal my family knows what will be for breakfast or lunch the next day. It’s the dal paratha. Parathas are great way to sneak in veggies for kids and with this dal paratha you can sneak in dal too. Spicy dals will be the best bet for these parathas.
This paratha is prepared with the left over panch mel dal from yesterday. I have tried these parathas with moong dal and toor dal tadka (check out how to make dal tadka). It is one of the simple paratha recipes and as it is not stuffed paratha rolling is also easy. Just mix the dal, wheat flour and salt to prepare the dough. I usually don’t add water as the dal helps to bind the flour. If your dal is thick in consistency add little bit water as required to knead the dough. That’s it. Roll it out like rotis and serve it with ketchup or curd or pickle. I love this for weekend brunch.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour – 1.5 cups + for dusting
- Leftover dal – Approx. 1 cup
- Salt – ½ tsp
- Oil – for paratha
Steps
- Mix the dal, wheat flour, salt together.
- Mix well and knead the dough. (If required add water)
- Divide the dough into equal sized balls and roll them. If required dust with additional flour. (This measure yields around 10 parathas)
- Now heat the tava and place these rolled parathas and spread little oil.
- Let it cook for a minute and flip. Let it cook for another minute on the other side. If required add oil.
- Once both sides are cooked, that’s it. Yummy parathas are ready.
